The Need for World Peace

Since the beginning of time, man has always gone to war against each other. The only difference between the wars of long ago and the wars of today are the weapons they use to destroy each other.

The current policy of most nations is to develop and produce such powerful and destructive weapons that the fear of annihilation is the deterrent not to attack them. This policy has created a dangerous situation for all the people of the world. Technology in weapons of war has advanced at a tremendous rate. In just five hundred years the advancement of weapons has gone from spears and swords to nuclear, chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction. The error in this strategy is that fear of death does not eliminate the desire for someone to attack you. For example the Islamic suicide bomber who believes he is doing Gods work and his death will be rewarded by his advancement to paradise. We now find ourselves in a position where nations have stockpiled weapons of mass destruction and at the same time there are people who have the desire to use one without any concern for the consequences of their actions. As more and more nations achieve nuclear capabilities it is inevitable that a nuclear weapon of mass destruction will fall into the hands of someone with the desire to use it.

There are many people who look at man’s historical record of wars and say our mission of world peace is a dream that will never be achieved. We at World Peace International look at man’s historical record of wars and his advancement in weapons of mass destruction and say we have no other choice but to succeed. If we do not succeed, self-destruction is inevitable.
